Thank God Alexander the Pope Isn't His Title...

I'm just going to start off by saying that Alexander Pope is quite the opposite of his name. His attitudes and writings about women are extremely critical to the point you would think we're not even of the same species. It seemed as though he treated women as a different entity being held to an impossible, supernatural standard when men are just as human and physical as women are. These standards always seem to blow my mind when it comes to inequality. We. Are. All. Human. There's no differences between men and women, other than some hormonal and brain differences. Nothing else matters to that extent.

Jonathan Swift was no better. His works truly denounce everything that women are held within society to be. At some point, he is simply satarizing the society in which people believe woman are not human and must be held to different standards. At another point, he goes way too far. Deconstruction of the woman form, and all the things she needs to create that form, is a little much for a satire on society. He's unnecessarily harsh for his goal.
